Cyber attacks on hospitals
The topic of cyber attacks on hospitals is now more relevant than ever. With a ransomware attack, criminals gain access to sensitive data of hospitals and then encrypt them. The affected hospitals are then blackmailed to pay a ransom in order to regain access to their data. Payment of the ransom is not recommended, because even after payment the data is often not released back to the hospital.
The main route of virus infections is through e-mail attachments. Spam emails appear so authentic nowadays, that it is nearly impossible for employees to recognize whether they contain a Trojan Horse or other malware.
Experts recommend regularly updating virus scanners and firewalls. Furthermore, Adobe Reader, Flash, Java and Word macros should be either uninstalled or disabled.
